Resources for the beginning of the school year:
Math: Have your child practice counting 0-5, and if they are successful with that, try 0-10. One activity we like to do beginning of the year is counting the letters in our first name and eventually both first and last name. Also laying random objects out and having your child count each object. We focus mainly in the beginning of the year on 1:1 correspondence, so the child touching each object while they count to ensure they aren't skipping any objects/numbers.
EL: Have your child practice writing and recognizing their name. They should learn the letters in their name and then eventually how to spell and write their name. One activity focused on in the beginning of the year is name tracing. Helping with the formation of each letter while saying the letter is the foundation for the child learning their name. Once successful, we will move on to learning letters outside of our name in the rest of the alphabet.
